Automations Walkthrough

Last updated: June 22, 2026

Automations are designed to streamline and automate several workflows, effectively becoming your always-on program coordinator.

You can easily create flows to automate tasks like discovery, recruitment, gifting, creator communications, and program management, allowing you to focus more on strategic initiatives while Superfiliate handles repetitive tasks behind the scenes.

Automations are made up of three main components:

Triggers

A trigger is the event that starts an automation flow. Triggers can be based on creator actions, program activity, gifting campaigns, social interactions, applications, conversions, and more.

UGC

Keyword Comment
When someone comments a specific keyword on one of your brand's posts.

Keyword DM
When your brand receives a DM containing a specific keyword.

New Instagram Mention
When your brand is mentioned on Instagram.

Gifting

New Campaign
When a Superfiliate is added to a gifting campaign.

Gifting Status Changed
When a creator's gifting status changes within a gifting campaign.

Superfiliate Management

Conversion Approved
When program rewards become available to a Superfiliate.

Conversion Created
When a Superfiliate's audience converts. Approval may still be pending.

New Application
When a new application is received through your sign-up form.

Enrolled Superfiliate
When a Superfiliate is enrolled into their first program.

Superfiliate Moved
When a Superfiliate is moved to another program.

Joined Superfiliate
When a Superfiliate joins a program, either through enrollment or being moved.

Superfiliate Tagged
When a tag is added to a Superfiliate profile.

Creators Discovery

Creators List Creator Status Changed
When a creator's status changes inside a Creators Discovery list.

SuperBrief

Creator Application Status Changed
When a creator's application status changes for a SuperBrief campaign.

Creator Added to SuperBrief
When a creator is added to a SuperBrief campaign manually or through an automation.

Task Status Changed
When a creator's task status changes within a SuperBrief campaign.

Gifting Reward Status Changed
When a creator's gifting reward status changes for a SuperBrief campaign.

Deliverable Status Changed
When a deliverable status changes within a SuperBrief campaign.

TikTok Shop

Creator Status Change
When a creator's TikTok Shop status changes.

Order Milestone Reached
When a creator reaches a specified TikTok Shop order milestone.

Sample Request Created
When a TikTok Shop sample request is created.

Each trigger can be configured to run only once per creator or allow creators to re-enter the flow when the trigger occurs again.

Filters

Filters define the conditions under which a trigger is valid.

Examples include:

  • Specific keywords

  • Particular programs

  • Gifting campaigns

  • Creator tags

  • Revenue thresholds

  • Follower count

  • Creator status

  • Application status

  • Campaign participation

Filters can be based on either:

  • Trigger properties

  • Superfiliate properties

Multiple conditions can be combined using AND and OR logic.

Actions

Actions determine what happens after the trigger conditions are met.

You can chain multiple actions together to create sophisticated automation workflows.

Intermediary Actions

Time Delay

Pause the automation for a specific number of seconds, minutes, hours, or days before proceeding to the next step.

Example:
Wait 7 days after a creator joins a gifting campaign before sending a follow-up email.

Conditional Split

Create different paths based on conditions.

Conditions can include:

  • Creator properties

  • Trigger properties

  • Revenue performance

  • Program participation

  • Previous actions taken

  • Engagement activity

This allows you to personalize the automation experience for different creator segments.

A/B Test

Split creators into multiple paths based on percentages.

Example:
Send 50% of creators Email A and 50% Email B to test open rates and engagement.

Action Types

Communications

Send an Instagram DM

Automatically send an Instagram DM to creators who have recently interacted with your brand.

Important: Due to Meta's messaging policies, DMs can only be sent within the 24-hour messaging window following a creator interaction.

Send an Email

Send a customized email directly from the automation flow.

Common use cases:

  • Welcome emails

  • Gifting notifications

  • Program upgrades

  • Re-engagement campaigns

  • Milestone celebrations

Custom Klaviyo Metric

Create a custom Klaviyo event that can be used to trigger flows and segments inside Klaviyo.

Examples:

  • Creator joins a VIP tier

  • Creator becomes inactive

  • Creator reaches a revenue milestone

Gifting

Add to a Gifting Campaign

Automatically add creators to a gifting campaign.

Common use cases:

  • Enrolling newly approved creators into a gifting experience

  • Unlocking gifting tiers based on performance

  • Sending product seeding opportunities automatically

Superfiliate Management

Move to a Program

Automatically move creators from one program to another.

When a creator moves programs, their rewards, commissions, links, and discount codes automatically update to reflect the new program settings.

Add Tag to a Superfiliate

Automatically apply a tag to a creator profile.

Useful for:

  • Tier management

  • Segmentation

  • Campaign tracking

  • Workflow eligibility

Add Tag to Orders

Automatically add Shopify order tags based on creator activity or conversion events.

Payments

Add New Balance

Add credit to a creator's wallet.

Supports both:

  • Cash payout programs

  • Store credit programs

Common use cases:

  • Milestone bonuses

  • Performance incentives

  • Seasonal rewards

Remove Balance

Remove credit from a creator's wallet.

Useful for:

  • Balance corrections

  • Reversals

  • Program adjustments

SuperBrief

Add to a SuperBrief

Automatically enroll creators into a SuperBrief campaign.

Common use cases:

  • Moving creators into content campaigns after approval

  • Assigning creators to campaigns based on performance

  • Automating campaign participation workflows

Common Automation Mistakes

Forgetting to Turn On the Automation

Automations remain in Draft mode until you click Turn On. Draft automations do not run and no contacts enter the flow.

Editing a Published Automation

Published automations cannot be edited directly. You must create a New Version. Creators already in the old version do not move to the new one and stop progressing through the flow.

Forgetting to Replace Placeholders

Text inside brackets (e.g. [Link], [Program Name]) is not dynamic. If left unchanged, creators will receive the message exactly as written.

Instagram DM Outside Meta's 24-Hour Window

Meta only allows automated DMs within 24 hours of a creator's last interaction with your brand. Messages sent after that window will not be delivered.

Incorrect Filters

Filters that are too broad may enroll the wrong contacts, while filters that are too restrictive may prevent anyone from entering the flow. Review your AND/OR conditions before publishing.

Confusing Archive with Versioning

Archiving an automation permanently stops all participants from progressing and cannot be undone. Use Create New Version when making changes.

One-Time vs. Recurring Triggers

Most triggers can be configured to allow contacts to enter the flow once or multiple times. Double-check this setting, as it can significantly impact participation volume.
